I’m fascinated by the ways that people use online forums to create communities to explore their experience within the natural world. On the the Stargazers Lounge online forum there is a community devoted to amateur astronomists. One message board is devoted to artists who make drawings and paintings of the night sky and celestial bodies, working in the tradition of Étienne Léopold Trouvelot. This site pairs an archive of the web-scraped images of the drawing forum with excerpts on observing the Moon from Trouvelot’s Astronomical Drawing Manual.
